Our first full day of riding - 30 miles to Oberriet..
As promised, we didn't leave Wartegg until we HAD to leave. What a fantastic stay. We finished Wartegg with a super good breakfast - squeezed juices, cold cuts, eggs, bread, croissants, cheese, muesli, fruits and cappuccinos. mmmm yum.
The day was flawless for us. There were relatively many people on our route (Swiss route 9) because of the great weather and also it's a national holiday this weekend. We did have several stops along the way for rests and restocking supplies.
We wove our way through several small towns and countryside. The view of mountains are staggeringly lush green. We saw sheep, water buffalo, lots of cows - in fact we passed by a farm that was utilizing a cow wash, very similar to a car wash, where a circulating brush circled the cow while it stood still and eventually walked out very nice and clean!! We also noticed that there are an unusual number of hair salons as a percentage of business in the small towns and I just found it fascinating. And in this area, everyone has immaculate properties, farms, small homes in villages, or large expensive properties - all very neat, clean and well attended. There are cycling paths that criss-cross the valley, so I'm certain a cyclist can go anywhere they want locally without having to worry about car traffic!
Just a few other things I thought about during the ride - no obvious advertisements. There are painted names of businesses on exterior walls, but NO neon and no ugly signage. Lastly, 95% of autos are small cars with a high percentage electric. I've not seen a single large truck and very, very few flags. Nice.
