Geneva to St. Gallen via Train, Bicycle

Today we made the trip to the start point of our bicycle tour, St. Gallen (Rorschach, which is located in the northeast Switzerland on Lake Constance.

We had 4 tickets per person for the train - day pass, bike day pass, seat reservation, bike space reservation.  Like everything else in Switzerland, the trains are precise, on time and very smooth.  The landscapes were beautiful and the train is double decked for excellent views.  Our train took approximately 4.5 hrs to make the trip across Switzerland.

Upon our arrival, we visited the Abbey of Saint Gall, founded 612AD.

St. Gallen a quiet, beautiful area on Lake Constance (Lake 1 of 10 on our tour, I believe - I'll have to count them!).  It was only a ~10 mile journey from the train station to our stay at Schloss Wartegg.  Check out the description:

At Wartegg, we enjoyed a 4 board, which is a 4 course gourmet meal with a restaurant that achieved Michelin guide recommendation for its focus on organic and ecological dining - farm to table.  Much of the food is grown on site and you can tour the gardens where your meal was produced. Really, Wartegg provides excellent value for premium stay.  This was a very special start to our journey!

Pedaling starts at 11am tomorrow when the staff at Wartegg kick us out!!  We will be riding to Oberriet tomorrow which should be about 30 miles.  We will test our endurance with this ride and then decide from there how to adjust our mileage.  My guess is that we can increase it.

Last word...  I'll try to get the Relive app working tomorrow to make the fun graphical journey come to life in the blog.  I used it on my last bicycle tour with our son, Alex and it worked great.
